Relentless – Karen Lynch

Sara Grey’s world shattered ten years ago when her father was brutally murdered. Now at seventeen, she is still haunted by memories of that day and driven by the need to understand why it happened. She lives a life full of secrets and her family and friends have no idea of the supernatural world she is immersed in or of Sara’s own very powerful gift.

In her quest for answers about her father’s death, Sara takes risks that expose her and her friends to danger and puts herself into the sights of a sadistic vampire. On the same fateful night she meets Nikolas, a warrior who turns Sara’s world upside down and is determined to protect her even if it’s the last thing she wants.

Sara’s life starts to spin out of control as she is hunted by an obsessed vampire, learns that her friends have secrets of their own and reels from the truth about her own ancestry. Sara has always been fiercely independent but in order to survive now she must open herself to others, to reveal her deepest secrets. And she must learn to trust the one person capable of breaking down the walls around her.

This was such a unique book with such a great story and characters. Demons, check. Vampires, check. Werewolves, check. Lots of other supernatural creatures, check. As one of my favourite quotes from another book says “give me a story about vampires werewolves basically anything not normal and i was good to go”.

It follows the story of Sara who is desperate to find answers about her father’s death 10 years ago. Ever since that day Sara has known about the supernatural world and that she has a strange ability to heal and the closer she gets to answers, the more she realises that she isn’t exactly human. One night she goes out with her two friends and finds herself alone. In a dark alley. Because everyone knows hanging around in a dark alley by yourself in the middle of the night is a great idea. Along comes a vampire who tries to kill her. Enter sexy half demon warrior. Nikolas is every teenage girls freaking dream. Sexy mysterious stranger with dark hair and gorgeous eyes who who has some serious badass skills. Not to mention the bad boy image (motorcycle and all) and the fact that he has a dark side). He is such a swoon worthy character and he always is there when Sara needs him (whether she wants him or not). Although they don’t technically get together, I shipped them the whole story and can’t wait to read the next book in the series Refugee to get some more Nara action!

Sara herself is such a strong character who develops some pretty badass skills herself. She deals pretty well with finding out she is a half demon warrior faerie human thing. I love how she is such a strong character through out the whole book. Even at the start she was doing deals with dangerous people and trading dangerous goods to help people that she loved. I admire her character so much because there is nothing she won’t do to save those she loves. I loved the writing of this book and lets talk about the cover! I freaking love this cover it looks so badass with the serious faces and knife.

“If I ever got this stupid over a guy I hoped someone would slap some sense into me.”

“Compassion and kindness are powers unto themselves if wielded correctly.”

“Letting someone get that close to you only opens you up to more pain when they are gone.”

“people see only what they want to see and believe what they want to believe.”

“Roland reached over to take my hand. “You can’t possibly be evil no matter what you are. I think evil is a choice and you choose to be good. In fact, your demon is probably dormant because you are too good for it.”

“Sometimes I thought of us as a pair of damaged bookends. We both had our flaws but we belonged together even if there was always something between us, keeping us apart.”
