My Thoughts

“All I can hear is the sound of my own heat bounding through my chest. And then, I remember only darkness.”

Mellea is a teen girl trying to figure out life after high school, but sometimes thats easier said then done. Her parents are poor, she just got a letter telling her she didn’t make it into university and she’s in love with her best friend who doesn’t share the same feelings. Her father always said to her ‘No good deed ever goes unpunished and one night when she is walking home from work and helps a stranger, she finds he was speaking the truth. That stranger happens to be Leo, a Successor and a child of the Guardians of Selestia and her innocent good deed leaves her being taken away to the Guardian Tower to be Leo’s wife. Mellea is sure her life can’t get worse and is determined not to go through with the Guardian’s plans but she soon starts to realise it can definitely get worse. MECHs, enemies of the Guardians are rising and if they wish to survive, Mellea must accept her role in this new life and work with the Guardians to save everyone.

I bought this book at supernova last year and read it in a day! The instant I finished reading it I fully regretted not buying the whole series. But allas, I have them all now and I absolutely love the series! I love the story and how unique it is. As soon as I read the synopsis, I knew that is was my kind of book. I liked Mellea’s character development a lot and how strong and determined Mellea’s character was. She had her moments when she was like ‘why why why’ but when she accepted her new life and put her differences and own problems aside to help the Guardians defeat the MECHs, her character became very admirable. I didn’t like Leo’s character at the start. He was very bossy and controlling and said some pretty cruel stuff to Mellea. But he also had some great character development and changes a lot throughout the book. Once Mellea accepted her life and made an effort to befriend Leo and he started to show and express his feelings, I liked him a lot more. Their relationship is rocky to say the least but I liked how it wasn’t insta love like it is in a lot of YA novels. By the end of the book they accept each other and although they don’t love each other, they trust each other which made me as happy as if they did love each other. I also love Demmi because he plays the cute, funny, kind friend and I mean, who doesn’t love those characters? The rest of the Guardians annoy me. They shut themselves up in a tower so they don’t have to communicate and mix with normal people. They think just because they are royalty and Guardians they are better than everyone else. They do change their beliefs slightly by the end of the book so it made them slightly more tolerable but still annoying.

Bound had so many twists and turns and was constantly surprising me and had me crazy for the next book. The plot was so unique and the idea around the MECHs were very interesting. In Bound you see the beginning of the rising of the MECHs but it goes into much more detail in the next book so you need to read the others as well! I highly recommend this book for fantasy fans!
